PDF compression is not one single trick

A PDF can contain text, fonts, images, page objects, metadata, and internal streams. Some compression tools reduce size by changing images. Others optimize the PDF structure without changing visual quality.

ConvertZiva's current Compress PDF tool uses browser-local, lossless qpdf optimization. It focuses on compatible PDF structure and streams; it does not downsample images or visually degrade the document.

Why image-heavy PDFs vary

PDFs built from scans or photos are often large because the images inside them are large. Lossless structural optimization may help a little, but it cannot make every image-heavy PDF much smaller.

If the biggest part of the file is already-compressed image data, meaningful reduction may require image recompression or resizing, which is not what ConvertZiva's current PDF compressor does.

Already optimized or protected PDFs

Some PDFs are already optimized by the software that created them. Others may be encrypted, damaged, or arranged in a way that browser-local optimization cannot safely rewrite.

When compression is not useful or cannot be completed, ConvertZiva should show a clear result instead of promising a smaller file every time.
